Wrapping up Reporting and Writing for Media
To begin with, my experience being enrolled in JOUR M02 at Moorpark College really brought me to find what I enjoy most about writing. One of which is by far my favorite writing style involves writing about Public relations topics, I found these writing assignments to be unique about certain issues but also feeling more comfortable to me since the info is already handed to you about the topic.
After all this though, the most difficult writing style to learn for me was doing interviews. Gathering information ensuring the right questions were gathered was rather difficult for me. Here are some feedback marks left for me on what to improve on in the future.
Learning a new style of writing known as AP Writing style was brought to me by Professor Saatsaz. This type of writing style is used by most for news writing that we see every day like the Associated Press. Learning how this way of writing was done was complicated to me but I found that looking at the feedback left by Prof Saatsaz has left me making sure what I can improve for the next assignment. Some ways to help improve were to look back at my AP Stylebook which included how to properly word and note certain words.
When it comes to finding out what I mastered during these writing assignments was looking over my work to ensure I was improving from the last assignments. This involved looking back at the AP Stylebook along with looking at lesson plans to ensure the words or phrases previously mistaken were to never happen again. Never before had this been such an area of interest to me after writing in English classes.
Ensuring my quotes and names are in order that was mentioned by Professor Saatsaz will be my first rule of thumb for further writing assignments in AP Style. This was a common mistake made by me that I will ensure myself to improve upon. Here are some notes by Professor Saatsaz.
Some troubles came along the way with learning all of this though. This involved making sure my mistakes were right though, one of which was my trouble with writing and ensuring numbers were correctly written in AP style format for my papers. This seemed to always cause me to lose points but helped notify me about what to improve. Professor Saatsaz was quick to notify me in a proper timely matter.
Writing to me is a difficult but also fascinating subject. One of which is learning to incorporate new ideas which brings me to mention some writing techniques I didn’t know before entering the class. These involved using Professor Saatsaz’s amazing powerpoints that explained how to interview subjects, he went on to present during our lessons that helped me tremendously!
After all of the amazing feedback left by my professor, I will ensure to stay up to date with my AP Stylebook ensuring my words and numbers are up to date. Professor Saatsaz really ensured the feedback was crucial to me along with my further assignments he would assign. I hope to ask Professor Saatsaz further questions for future improvements as I enjoy his PowerPoint and zoom calls.
To end this off, I am glad to have Professor Saatsaz be my teacher along the way. This assignment along with the others he has assigned always makes sure the future of writing is critical. This self-reflection lets me realize the pros and cons of my writing so I can further improve on myself.
